We started community experiments in the latter part of 2022, so we’ll include those early ones in this list as well. These features are truly made by the community for the community, and here’s a list of the ones we’ve done together so far. Typically, thousands of users install these experimental extensions to help test and improve them. This includes receiving bug reports and pull requests as well as collecting telemetry to understand usage patterns. We then publish the feature as an open-source extension and work with the community to get it Just Right™. These are features that don’t have many upvotes on Developer Community, but other signals suggest that they would be desirable for developers regardless. As we enter a new year, we wanted to catch you up on several experiments your feedback and participation helped us fine tune over the course of 2023.Ī community experiment is when we identify features believed to increase user productivity and happiness, and then build and test it with the community of Visual Studio users.
